Zara G is one of the most recognizable faces of the new (and better) hip-hop made in Portugal. It’s impossible to talk about his name without also mentioning the collective Wet Bed Gang, where he stood out as one of its most charismatic members. Back in 2017, when the “Fantastic Four” from Vialonga were on the verge of becoming the national phenomenon they are today, the Portuguese-Cape Verdean rapper was already making a name for himself as a solo artist. The last few years have only confirmed both trends: Zara G has thrived, both alongside his longtime partners and in his own right. Today, he is a true star among his peers.
Among his first individual hits are tracks like “Mudei,” “50/50” (with Giovanni), and “Sem Juízo” (with Michel). Beyond the legacy built with Wet Bed Gang, he has also been leaving his own mark with releases like “Chaminé,” one of the best examples of his impact on the national scene. Zara G has managed to stand out thanks to a distinct identity, especially in his lyricism. Few rappers in the history of Portuguese hip-hop have as many quotable lines, memorable verses, and iconic bars. Sometimes undervalued or misunderstood, his artistic value goes far beyond the surface.
Elevated to true rockstar status, each release is met with huge anticipation, and his live broadcasts on social media are proof of that. Recent tracks like “100 Barras” and “Marselha” show that Zara G is in top form and still has much more to offer. Just like some of the biggest artists in the world, there is also, on our scale, a real cult following around Zara G. And that cult will surely be felt at his concert on July 4th, on the Sumol Stage at Sumol Summer Fest.
