Owner of the catchphrase “Cabelinho, tá onde? Cabelinho tá aí!”, MC Cabelinho is a 23-year-old funk artist who left Complexo do Pavão-Pavãozinho and Cantagalo to bring the reality of Rio’s favelas to the stages of Brazil. With a 10-year career, he has released hits such as “Toda Hora”, “Era Hora”, “Era Uma Vez”, “Zona Sul”, “vamos Fugir”, “Que Maravilha”, and his most recent work, the album “LITTLE HAIR”. His birth name is Victor Hugo Oliveira do Nascimento and since he was little he knew he wanted to be a singer. He grew up listening to great names in funk, such as MC Orelha, MC Max, MC Tikão and MC Smith, who shaped his career in gender. Outside of funk, Cabelinho’s idol is Amy Winehouse and, in 2018, he fulfilled his dream of traveling to London to see the singer’s statue and the places where she lived. With perseverance and dedication to his dreams, “MC Cabelinho” (name inspired in his frizzy hair) has become a reference in the Brazilian music scene. He has released more than 100 songs, performs around 25 shows per month throughout Brazil, has more than 9 million monthly listeners on Spotify and 13.5 million followers on Instagram. It is considered one of the biggest revelations of funk due to its ability to mix traditional style with new trends, in addition to always maintaining its roots.
His versatility led him to explore rap, initially through an invitation from rapper Brill, from Bloco 7. The single “Meu Mundo” opened doors for new collaborations, such as “Aqui Comigo”, “Reunião de Negócios”, “Senta Vai” and Pineapple’s hit, “Poesia Acústica 6”, which begins with its famous catchphrase and has already had more than 320 million plays on Spotify and 844 million views on YouTube. He recently released the song “Favela”, in partnership with Filipe Ret, reinforcing his ability to move between funk and rap. For MC Cabelinho, these two genres have a lot in common, especially in the way they represent the experiences of communities and address social issues in an authentic and direct way. MC Cabelinho continues to consolidate himself as one of the main voices of funk and rap in Brazil, taking his music and his message to ever wider audiences. And one of these audiences will be Portuguese, on the 4th of July in Palco Sumol of the 15º Sumol Summer Fest.
