When you listen to Iann Dior you might get the impression that he’s already carved his own place in the industry in spite of his young age. He grew up in Texas and began making music aged just 17 under pseudonyms line Olmo or Lil Rock. Michael Ian Olmo – his real name – would end up taking Iann Dior as his stage name. Writing about heartache, sex and even self-medication, Dior’s unpretentious beginnings initially caught the eye of some and soon stood out thanks to the track “Cutthroat”, released in 2019. The song was produced by Nick Mira, who had already worked with rappers like Juice WRLD and Lil Skies. From then on, the artist continued to grow and was signed by TenThousand Projects, the same label as 6ix9ine and Trippie Redd. After his first mixtape, Nothings Ever Good Enough, he released singles “Gone Girl”, with Trippie Redd, and “What Is Real”, which are both included in his debut album, Industry Plant. This first work features collaborations by phem, Travis Barker, Gunna and Poorstacy. Marked by emotional pain, the emo-rap songs are convincing without losing the pop appeal that would catapult Dior to international stardom. He later featured in the single “Mood” by 24kGoldn, which was a resounding success. Iann Dior continued releasing music, collaborating and preparing his second album, which landed in January 2022. On to Better Things includes singles “Live Fast Die Numb” and “Valley of Lies” (with Tomorrow X Together) and features Lil Uzi Vert, Machine Gun Kelly and Travis Barker. Iann Dior proves that he is the man of the moment and that’s why he’ll be in Portugal on 1st July for Sumol Summer Fest.
